A quite moving quote from Post 11's website:
"American Legion Post 11 members had sworn an oath that we would keep the Goodwill between our two countries every year by having a ceremony at the crash site deep in the Jersey Pine Barrens. Some years there have only been a handful of Legionaries, but each and every year we have been there. Rain, shine, hurricanes, wind or heat. The American Legion Post has never failed to honor their past comrades’ commitment to Mexico and America. Our brotherhood remains strong to this promise of tradition."
Please visit the Mount Holly American Legion Post #11's website for more info on this event and its history.
The Pinelands Regional CERT team and the Burlington County Radio Club support this event by providing parking and safety logistics and command and communications support. The Radio Club has setup a special event "station call sign" for the event (N2M), and any ham radio operators that contact that station (available over the Burlington County Repeater), will receive a certificate.
On Saturday July 11th, 2015 Mount Holly Post #11 of the American Legion hosted the 87th Annual Captain Emilio Carranza Memorial Service. The service was held at 1pm at the Carranza Memorial Park on Carranza Road. Captain Emilio Carranza has been called "Mexico's Lindbergh". In 1928, while flying a goodwill mission from New York to Mexico City, his plane crashed near Tabernacle, NJ during a thunderstorm. Each year his untimely death is honored by this ceremony. Dignitaries from both the US and Mexico are present to preside over the event.
